Winter Fruit Compote

2 cups white grape juice

3/4 cups sugar

2 (3 inch) cinnamon sticks

1 star anise

4 whole cloves

3 medium size firm pears, peeled and quartered

1 cup dried apricots, cut in half

1 cup prunes

1/2 cup dried cranberries

6 kumquats, cut horizontally into 1/4 inch slices

1 large navel orange, peeled and sectioned

In a 3 quart saucepan, combine grape juice, 1 cup water, sugar, cinnamon

star anise and cloves. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to

low; add the pears, apricots, prunes, and cranberries. Cover and simmer

until the fruit has softened 15-20 minutes. Stir in kumquats. Remove pan

from heat and let cool 15 minutes. Remove and discard star anise and cloves.

Add orange segments and divide compote among serving bowls.
