Harvest Baklava

1 roll of Filo pastry

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon butter

1 tablespoon flour

2 large apples

3 large pears

1/8 teaspoon cloves

1/8 teaspoon ginger

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

3/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 cup chopped pecans

1/2 cup caramel

1 tablespoon sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Follow the handling directions for the Fila pastry on the box. Peel, core and dice the apples

and pears. Make a caramel by putting one quarter cup sugar, brown sugar, butter, cloves,

and ginger, nutmeg, and 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon in a pot. Cook for about 10 minutes.

Add the flour to thicken the filling. Sprinkle the flour and so that you will not have balls of flour

in your mixture. Cook for another 5 to 7 minutes. Spray cooking spray on the bottom and

sides of a 9 x 13 inch baking pan. Lay one sheet of the filo into the pan and brush caramel

onto the sheet. Repeat 3 more times so you have a crust of 4 sheets. Spoon half of the fruit

mixture evenly onto the sheets. Add 1/4 cup of the chopped nuts. Repeat with a layer of only

3 sheets. Place the remaining fruit mixture onto the sheets. Top with the remaining nuts.

Add another layer of 4 sheets for the top crust. Brush the top with caramel.

Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon. . Bake in a 350° oven

for 20 to 25 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream.
